Transportation of skiing equipment on Finnair flights

As travel to skiing resorts is picking up, it is good to review the rules for transportation of skiing equipment on Finnair flights.

The new baggage rules, which concern flight tickets issued on September 1, 2010 and thereafter, should also be noted.

Skiing equipment may include one pair of skis and one pair of poles or one snowboard, plus one pair of ski or snowboard boots.

Skiing equipment must be packed in a ski-bag to prevent damage. Ski or snowboard boots may be packed in a separate shoe-bag without an extra fee being charged.

An individual passenger does not need to inform about transportation of skiing equipment in advance.

If the skiing equipment exceeds the free baggage allowance, the transport of the skiing equipment can be paid in advance online for a smaller fee than when paid at the airport. This also gives the airline advance information about the skiing equipment. Due to limited space on some aircraft, groups of 10 persons or more should, however, inform about the skiing equipment at the time of travel reservation. On leisure flights, information about the transportation of any special baggage should be made in advance, so that we can make sure that there is room for all the baggage onboard the aircraft.

Finnair Plus Platinum and Gold customers are always allowed to carry one set of skiing equipment free of charge on top the normal baggage allowance.
