The final competition of the World Championship of the fire sculptures is going to take place in Tallinn on January 22. Hundreds of sculptures will be burnt in the evening. The festival is going to be international and the winners are going to get interesting prizes.
In 2008 Baltic-Breaks organized a fam trip to Estonia and Latvia for a group of European and American golf tour operators and golf journalists.
The group members were shown some hotels, golf courses and restaurants. they tried playing golf in Latvia and Estonia and as a result of that an article appeared in Florida Golf Central Magazine.

In 2005 Baltic-Breaks organized a welcome reception in Tallinn for members the Guild of Travel and Tourism of the UK. The reception took place in Grand Meriton Conference & Spa Hotel. Memeber of the Guild are experienced professionals in travel industry, but even they were delighted and fell in love with Tallinn immediately.
Estonian media wrote about the reception. Postimees daily newspaper from October 7, 2005 published an article about the reception together with some words said to the journalist by the President of the Guild Michael Wynne-Parker.
Even now, five years later, Baltic-Breaks won’t stop offering Tallinn city breaks, incentive tours to Tallinn and other Baltic capitals and special events for all our friends and customers.

The golf course
Bom Sucesso is a superb layout, which follows the tenets of good golf design. Being a ‘resort’ course, there are places where tees are near resort roads, but in all cases tees are set down or raised up to avoid any interference from passing traffic, which will always be minimal in the playing areas. Where houses line the fairways, most holes run through dished valleys, with the houses set well back and above the play, a massive amount of tree planting, adds to the safety barriers as well as to the beauty of the course. Greens are especially well located and where greens are near roads they are set in positions surrounded by banks
Thought has been given to the length-challenged player, as well as the low handicapper. From the White Tees, this will be a course difficult enough to test the world’s top players, yet from the forward tees, long carries are eliminated, so that all can enjoy the experience of navigating around the variety of well-placed hazards on this course. The well-shaped greens are set to offer rewards to the player who positions their ball well for the approach to the green, and once on them, position is again important, as the surfaces are undulating and will offer putts of varying degrees of difficulty, according to their direction.
With a great site, the course takes full advantage of a series of spectacular views, some will be breathtaking and others just subtly attractive. With the theme of ‘all-over green,’ the houses will blend into the course, as the course limits will flow smoothly into the house plots. Barriers of vegetation will be the only division between golf and plots, yet the boundaries of the course are very well defined.
Whether as a visiting player or as a resident, Bom Sucesso will be a pleasurable experience, which all will wish to repeat, time and time again.

Accommodation
Obidos is situated at the distance of 100 km from Lisbon, the capital of Portugal. It is possible to stay in any of the hotels or guest houses, situated in Obidos or in any of the townhouses or villas that will be built directly at the resort. The hotels, guesthouses as well as townhouses and villas are anything from 3 to 5 star level.
Weather
The weather in October is perhaps the best for exploring the country and the Obidos region in particular. The lowest temperatures in these months are between 10 and 20 degrees, the highest seldom rises above 25. There are around 8 hours of daylight during the period and – most important for a golfer – hardly any rain!

Cолнце живёт на Тенерифе
В сентябре у меня была возможность посетить Тенерифе и принять участие в 10 Международном в качестве гольф тур-оператора. Я хотела бы поделиться своими впечатлениями о гольф-полях и гостиницах.
Поскольку это была моя первая поездка в островную часть Испании, я сильно волновалась о том, какими будут мои первые впечатления. Лететь из Таллинна с октября можно на чартерах, но, поскольку моя поездка была в сентябре, то мне пришлось долго лететь. Если вы планируете свой отпуск, лучше выбрать чартерный перелёт на Тенерифе. Чартеры на Тенерифе начинаются в пятницу 16.10, а в последующие недели они будут летать по четвергам до конца апреля. Перелёт займёт всего 6 часов. Если вы полетите обычным рейсом, то это может занять до 12 часов времени, как заняло у меня. Мне пришлось лететь через Хельсинки и Мадрид. Приземлилась я в Южном аэропорту города Санта Крус де Тенерифе. Южный аэропорт находится всего в 20 минутах езды от гостиницы, в которой я жила – отеля Jardin Tropical. Поскольку прилетела я ночью, у меня ушло всего полчаса на то, чтобы добраться до гостиницы на такси, и стоило это 35 евро. Я жила в гостинице Jardin Tropical. Гостиница отличалась потрясающей архитектурой, в ней было 400 номеров. Однако спроектирована гостиница таким образом, что я не чувствовала, что в ней живёт много людей. Там встречаются горы вулканического происхождения (самая высокая из которых – вулкан Тейде высотой 3718 м, высшая точка не только Тенерифе, но и во всей Испании). На острове можно увидеть различные ущелья, скалы и красивые леса. Все эти характеристики делают остров уникальным, и, находясь там, вы очень сильно ощущаете эту атмосферу. Важная деталь для нас – море там тоже есть.
Из номера моего отеля (Jardin Tropical) я могла наслаждаться прекрасными видами на океан и на соседний остров Ла Гомера. Я также наслаждалась прекрасным завтраком в гостинице. На завтрак они даже подавали шампанское. В бассейне есть два плавательных бассейна, один с пресной водой, а другой с солёной водой, температура которой около 18-20 градусов. Бассейн расположен около ресторана Лас Рокас.
Мне понравилось, что расположение гостиницы дало мне возможность посетить все гольф-поля. Всего их 6 на Юге, самое дальнее находится на расстоянии 17 км от гостиницы. Гольф-клуб Буэнависта, потрясающий гольф-клуб, расположенный в Северной части острова, находится на расстоянии примерно 60 км от гостиницы. Однако, чтобы туда доехать, вам придётся потратить примерно 2.5 часа, потому что ехать надо через весь остров. Вернуться можно и по горному серпантину, этот путь занимает 1.5 часа. К несчастью, серпантин нельзя использовать утром из-за очень напряжённого движения. Если бы вы всё-таки по нему поехали, ушло бы намного больше времени, чем 2.5 часа, потому что вы бы тратили своё время в многочисленных пробках.
Если вы хотите остановиться на Севере, то хорошим выбором был бы отель Vincci Seleccion Buenavista Golf & Spa, расположенный на территории гольф-клуба Буэнависта. Тогда гольф-клуб Буэнависта был бы вашим “домашним” гольф-клубом.
Традиционная канарская кухня предлагает вашему вниманию большое количество морепродуктов, вершиной её является знаменитая рыба-попугай. Я бы порекомендовала попробовать её в ресторане “Лас Рокас”, стоить это вам будет всего около 19 евро. Лучше пойти прогуляться по променаду, с его большим количеством ресторанов. Питаться за пределами вашего отеля будет удобнее и дешевле, особенно, если вы будете делать это на променаде, где находится множество торговых центров и ресторанов.
Другие гастрономические особенности Тенерифе включают в себя козий сыр, местное вино, но самые знаменитые части тенерифской кухни – это всё-таки морепродукты и мясо. Морепродукты включают в себя уже упоминавшуюся рыбу-попугая, морского окуня, палтуса и тунца. Популярные мясные блюда – крольчатина, козлятина и телятина.
На Тенерифе можно ехать всей семьёй, там найдётся занятие для каждого. Там есть занятия для всей семьи.
Что касается еды и напитков, то в Адехе можно найти всё, что угодно, начиная от испанских ресторанов и заканчивая английскими пабами. Там есть первоклассные торговые центры и Парк Сиам, крупнейший в Европе тематический водный парк и единственный водный парк под открытым небом, бассейны которого подогреваются. Когда я там была, там выступали серферы, показывая шоу на машине для искусственных волн, которая способна обеспечивать волны высотой до 3 метров. Там был чудесный ужин.
Мне повезло, я провела на Тенерифе неделю, и первый день у меня был свободным, так что я могла использовать его для того, чтобы поиграть в гольф на острове Ла Гомера, гольф-клуб Тесина.
На Тенерифе всё подготовлено к тому, чтобы вы наслаждались этим видим спорта. Это остров гольфа. Климат, мягкий на протяжении всего года, позволяет вам получать удовольствие ио игры как зимой, так и летом. Как говорят, на Тенерифе царит вечная весна. Там есть восемь гольф-полей, среди которых вы можете выбирать. Находятся они как на Севере, так и на Юге. Мне удалось сыграть на четырёх. Я поехала на гольф-поле Тесина из гостиницы Jardin Tropical. Я заказала такси, у меня ушло около 15 минут рано утром. Первый паром на Ла Гомеру отходил рано утром. Паром стоит 30 евро в два конца, дорога в один конец отнимает примерно 30 минут.
Отдых на Тенерифе можно соединить с отдыхом на острове Ла Гомера. Вы можете играть в гольф и остановиться в гостинице Jardin Tecina, прекрасном отеле, построенном в виде нескольких бунгало в канарском стиле. Также там есть теннисные корты, где можно поиграть в теннис. Вечерами проходят шоу с живой музыкой и театральными представлениями. Если вы захотите задержаться на Ла Гомере на пару дней, а ваш спутник не играет в гольф, то там есть специально проложенные маршруты для пеших походов, возможности для глубоководной рыбалки и дайвинга. Всё это предлагает вам гостиница Jardin Tecina, всё это вы можете там найти. Те, кто не хотят плавать в бассейне, могут плавать в Атлантическом Океане.
Когда я приехала, такси стоило мне 35 евро в один конец. Оно отвезёт вас от того места, куда прибывает паром компании Фред Ольсен, до гольф-поля. Водитель такси был испанцем, который не говорил по-английски, а говорил только по-испански, пытаясь рассказать обо всём, об острове, о том, как давно он работает водителем такси. Мои скромные познания в испанском и жесты помогли мне его понять. Дорога была серпантином. Когда я приехала в отель, я воспользовалась бесплатным автобусом, чтобы добраться до клубного дома, а оттуда до первого ти. Пешком туда дойти невозможно. В клубном доме есть маленький ресторан, раздевалка с душем и про-магазин. В ресторане мне понравилась большая связка бананов, которые можно отрывать и брать с собой на поле, чтобы там есть. Можно срывать столько бананов, сколько хочешь, и брать их с собой на гольф-поле.
Я бы порекомендовала использовать гольф-кар, поскольку ландшафт очень гористый и ходить пешком может быть довольно непросто.
Если вы не хотите провести пару ночей на острове Ла Гомера, то можно уехать с Тенерифе рано утром и вернуться на пароме, который отходит от Ла Гомеры в 17.00. Если начать играть в 10.00, то вы легко уложитесь и успеете на паром. На обратной дороге таксист немного говорил по-английски и показал мне прекрасную скалу в форме льва.
На следующий день у нас был профессионально-любительский турнир. Проходил он на гольф-поле Коста Адехе, где так же проходил и открытый чемпионат Тенерифе среди женщин. Все сливки гольф-сообщества принимали в нём участие, включая Лауру Дейвис, Бекки Бруэртон, Диану Луну и Таню Элосеги. Я не играла в этом турнире, но я играла в гольф-скрамбл с молодой итальянской профессионалкой по имени Матиа Маффиулетти. Я осталась под впечатлением от игры с ней. Я не только хорошо поиграла в гольф, но и узнала много нового об этой игре. Играть с Матиа было очень полезно и информативно.
В гольф-клубе “Коста Адехе” есть два гольф-поля, чемпионское поле на 18 лунок и поле Лос Лагос на 9 лунок, на котором я и играла. Поле спроектировано так, что при его строительстве учитывался рельеф сельскохозяйственных угодий, которыми славится этот регион. Сам Открытый чемпионат Тенерифе проходил на чемпионском поле, а мы играли на поле Лос Лагос.
Поле Лос Лагос отмечено гористым ландшафтом.
На следующий день мне удалось поиграть на поле Гольф дель Сур – 27 лунок. Я играла 18 лунок. Оно находится всего в 5 минутах езды от аэропорта Рейна София (Южный аэропорт) и построено в регионе, который был признан национальным туристическим достоянием. Гольф-клуб «Гольф дель Сур» – без сомнения, один из самых важных гольф-комплексов на острове. Он открыл двери для посетителей в 1987 году, его владельцами была поставлена цель сделать его одним из великих гольф-полей в европейском гольфе. Там у нас был турнир, в котором я принимала участие, там нас играло четверо. Я была довольна, но для первого раза поле всё-таки довольно сложное.
Мне не удалось поиграть в гольф-клубе “Абама”, но гостиница “Абама” принимала гостей на праздничном ужине. Территория гольф-клуба и сама гостиница – класса люкс. Если у кого-то появится возможность, то я рекомендую провести свой отпуск в гостинице “Абама”. Гольф-клуб “Абама” отличается вулканическим ландшафтом, пышной растительностью – на его территории представлено более 300 разновидностей растений, деревьев и пальм – захватывающими дух видами на Атлантический океан и остров Ла Гомера. Расположен гольф-клуб на Западном побережье Тенерифе на пологих склонах горы Тейде, высочайшего пика Испании. Гостиница находится в окружении захватывающего дух ландшафта, который спускается к океану, где у гостиницы есть свой собственный эксклюзивный пляж золотого песка. Он расположен в тихом месте с прекрасными видами на Атлантический океан. Наш ужин проходил в ресторане на пляже, и десерт был оформлен в форме композиции из клюшек для гольфа с различными сладостями. Я хорошо помню шоколадные мячи для гольфа.
Отель спроектирован в модернистском стиле с враплениями Североафриканских традиций и с учётом китайских принципов фен-шуй. Если вы остановитесь в гостинице “Абама”, то вашим “домашним” гольф-клубом будет гольф-клуб “Абама”, где на территории клуба есть 22 озера и 25 000 пальм. Поле на 18 лунок, прекрасно технически оборудовано.
Кроме основного поля, в этом комплексе также находится большая тренировочная зона. Всё это – свидетельства масштабности проекта, который ставит целью сделать гольф-клуб “Абама” знаменитым среди гольфистов всего мира. С этой целью, сервисы и услуги гольф-клуба “Абама” сочетают в себе философию роскоши и внимание к деталям. Клубный дом предлагает весь спектр услуг, необходимых для того, чтобы удовлетворить все запросы клиентов. Отдельного упоминания заслуживает Мартин Берасатеги, один из великих гениев международной гастрономии. Все вкусы и ароматы еды, которая готовится в гольф-клубе “Абама”, отмечены его печатью. Эксклюзивность и неописуемое ощущение благополучия – это только некоторые из составляющих тех услуг, которые может предложить своим клиентам гольф-клуб “Абама”. Мои друзья, которые играли в гольф-клубе “Абама”, советуют, что лушче брать гольф-кар, поскольку расстояния там велики, а пешая ходьба может быть утомительной.
В последний день мы играли в гольф-клубе “Буэнависта”. Мы играли на 18 лунках в командах по четыре человека с тремя джентльменами. Игра прошла легко и принесла мне массу удовольствия. От каждой лунки открывался прекрасный вид на океан. У них есть современный клубный дом, с видом на океан и горы, там есть бар и ресторан. После игры там можно есть и пить.
Подводя краткие итоги, вот несколько рекоммендаций с моей стороны. Я рекомендую вам взять напрокат машину, если вы хотите путешествовать по острову. Это сэкономит ваше время, а, кроме того, вы не будете зависеть от трансферов. Гостиница Jardin Tropical, так же, как и другие гостиницы, имеет бесплатную парковку для своих постояльцев. Когда вы поедете на Ла Гомеру, то паром также будет оборудован так, что вы сможете взять машину с собой.

Päike elab Tenerifel
Septembris avanes mul võimalus minna Tenerifele ja osaleda golfireiside korraldajana 10. rahvusvahelistel karikavõistlustel golfis. Sooviksin jagada oma muljeid golfiväljakutest ja hotellidest.
Kuna tegemist oli minu esimese reisiga Hispaania saartele, siis muretsesin päris palju oma esmamuljete pärast. Oktoobris saab Tallinnast Tenerifele lennata tšarterlennuga, kuid kuna minu lend oli septembris, siis kujunes see väga pikaks. Kui planeerite oma puhkust, siis valige Tenerifele tšarterlend. Tšarterlennud algavad reedel, 16. oktoobril ja pärast seda väljuvad lennukid kuni aprillini igal neljapäeval. Reis võtab sellisel juhul aega ainult 6 tundi. Tavalennul kulus mul ligikaudu 12 tundi. Pidin lendama Helsingi ja Madridi kaudu ning maabusin seejärel Santa Cruz de Tenerifel, mis on Tenerife lõunapoolsem lennujaam. Lõunaosas asuv lennujaam on ainult 20 minuti sõidu kaugusel hotellist Jardin Tropical, kus peatusin. Kuna lennuk maandus öösel, siis kulus mul taksoga hotelli jõudmiseks vaid umbes pool tundi ja see läks maksma 35 eurot. Peatusin hotellis Jardin Tropical. See on imelise arhitektuuriga ja 400 toaga hotell, mis on kujundatud selliselt, et mulle näis, nagu seal poleks palju inimesi. Kõikjal oli tunda Araabia motiive. Hotellis on ka kaks basseini, üks tavalise mageveega ja teine soolase veega, mille temperatuur oli ligikaudu 18-20 kraadi. Bassein asub restorani Las Rocas läheduses.

Kui mina seal olin, esinesid seal surfarid kunstliku lainemasinaga, mis lõi kuni 3 meetri kõrguseid laineid ning ka lõunasöök oli võrratu.
Mul vedas. Veetsin Tenerifel kogu nädala ja mu esimene päev oli vaba ning sain seda kasutada La Gomera saarel Tecina golgiväljakul golfi mängimiseks.
Tenerifel on tehtud kõik ettevalmistused selleks, et saaksite seda spordiala nautida. See on tõeline golfisaar. Aastaringne pehme kliima võimaldab meeldivat mängu nii talvel kui ka suvel, kuna Tenerifel on alati kevad. Valida saab kaheksa golfiväljaku vahel, mis asuvad nii põhjas kui ka lõunas. Mul õnnestus mängida neist neljal. Läksin hotellist Jardin Tropical Tecinale. Tellisin takso ja varahommikul kulus sõiduks ligikaudu 15 minutit. Esimene praam La Gomerale väljus varajasel hommikutunnil. Sõit maksab 30 eurot ja selleks kulub umbes 30 minutit.
Puhkust Tenerifel saab kombineerida La Gomera saarega. Saate golfi mängida ja peatuda hotellis Jardin Tecina. See on kaunis hotell, mis on ehitatud Kanaari stiilis bangalotega. Samuti asuvad seal tenniseväljakud, kus saate tennist mängida. Õhtuti toimuvad elava muusika kontserdid ja teatrietendused. Kui soovite veel mõneks päevaks La Gomera saarele jääda ja kui teie kaaslane ei mängi golfi, siis on võimalus tegeleda ka matkamise, kalapüügi ja sukeldumisega. Hotell Jardin Tecin pakub kõike seda ning võite sealt tõepoolest ükskõik milliseid tegevusi leida. Need, kes ei soovi basseinis ujuda, võivad seda teha Atlandi ookeanis.
Minu saabudes maksis ühesuunaline taksosõit 35 eurot. Takso viib teid Fred Olseni ettevõtte praami saabumiskohast golfiväljakule. Taksojuht oli hispaanlane, kes ei rääkinud inglise keelt, vaid ainult hispaania keelt ning püüdis rääkida kõigest – saarest ja sellest, kui kaua ta on taksojuhina töötanud. Minu tagasihoidlik hispaania keele oskus ja žestid aitasid mul temast aru saada. Tegemist oli mägiteega. Hotelli saabudes võtsin tasuta süstikbussi klubihoonesse ja sealt esimese tiini jõudmiseks. Jala on sinna võimatu pääseda. Klubihoones on väike restoran, riietusruum dušiga ja profipood. Restoranis meeldis mulle suur kimp banaane, mida saab golfiväljakule söömiseks kaasa võtta. Kaasa võib võtta kui tahes palju banaane.
Maastik on väga mägine ja vaated avanevad merele ning mägedele. Kõige märkimisväärsem rada on neljas, mis nõuab väga suurt täpsust, kuna teel on palju takistusi. Edenemisala on pigem korrapäratu ja kahe erineva kõrgusega platvormiga, mis piirnevad vasakult poolt oruga. Golfikepivalik on väga oluline, kui soovite ühe raja kahe löögiga läbida. Viielöögine võiks olla hea valik, kui tuul ei ole liiga tugev. Muidu suhteliselt ligipääsetav griin on hästi kaitstud punkriga, mis asub eesmises osas ja edenemisala parempoolsel rajal. Tulemuseks on see, et mänguala on võrdlemisi piiratud. Kui olete griinini jõudnud ja palli asukoht võimaldab puttida, tuleb arvestada ka maapinna konarusi. Kolm lööki on igale mängijale, kelle händikäp jääb alla 10, peaaegu kohustuslik.
Soovitan kasutada golfikäru, kuna maastik on väga mägine ja kõndimine võib osutuda küllalt raskeks.
Mul ei õnnestunud neljandat rada kolme löögiga mängida, kuid kohalik professionaal andis mulle eelpool mainitud nõuande. Võite seda kasutada, kui juhtute seal mängima. Kui te ei soovi La Gomera saarel öid veeta, siis võite Tenerifelt varahommikul lahkuda ja tulla kell 17.00 väljuva praamiga tagasi. Kui alustate mänguga kell 10.00, siis jõuate hõlpsasti praamile. Tagasiteel autot juhtinud taksojuht rääkis pisut inglise keelt ja näitas mulle kaunist lõvikujulist kaljut.
Järgmisel päeval oli meil profiamatööride võistlus. See leidis aset Golf Costa Adeje golfiväljakul, kus toimusid ka Tenerife naiste lahtised meistrivõistlused. Seal osales kogu golfimaailma koorekiht, teiste seas Laura Davies, Becky Brewerton, Diana Luna ja Tania Elosegui. Mina ei osalenud võistlustel, aga mängisin noore Itaalia profi Matia Maffiulettiga. See oli väga muljetavaldav. Ma ei saanud ainult head mängu, vaid õppisin ka palju uusi asju. Mäng Matiaga oli väga kasulik ja informatiivne.
Golfiklubil Costa Adeje on kaks golfiväljakut, 18 rajaga championship-tüüpi väljak ja 9 rajaga Los Lagose väljak, kus ma mängisin. Väljak austab piirkonna vanasid põllumajanduslikke astanguid. Tenerife naiste lahtised meistrivõistlused leidsid aset championship-tüüpi väljakul ja meie mängisime Los Lagose väljakul.

Järgmisel päeval õnnestus mul mängida golfiväljakul Golf del Sur. Seal on 27 rada. Mängisin 18 rada. Väljak asub ainult 5 minuti kaugusel Reina Sofia lennujaamast (Lõuna-Tenerife) ning on rajatud piirkonda, mida peetakse turismis riiklikult tähtsaks. Golf del Sur on kindlasti üks olulisemaid golfikomplekse saarel. Uksed avati aastal 1987, eesmärgiga saada üheks Euroopa parimatest golfiväljakutest. Ainulaadne 27 raja projekt kuulub tuntud kujundajale Pepe Gancedole, kuid see on Manuel Pinero, kes vastutab selle eest, et Golf del Sur on ainus Kanaari saarte kolme võistlusrajaga väljak. Kompleks koosneb 27 rajast 3 ringil, mis on täiuslikult eristatud. 2949-meetrisel põhjaväljakul on 9 rada, sh 2 par 3, 5 par 4 ja 2 par 5. Mere ja jõeorgude kohalolu, mis annab väljakule kuju, annab mängijale võimaluse saada maksimaalne nauding igast Golf del Suri külastamisest. Laiadel ja lainjatel edenemisaladel on arvukalt looduslikke takistusi. Mitme järve kohalolu on kontrastiks silmapaistvatele vulkaanilise liiva punkritele, mis griine kaitsevad. Golf del Suri võimalused on võrreldavad suurte Euroopa golfikomplekside omadega. Golf del Sur annab teile võimaluse jagada sama tunnet, mida on tundnud paljud golfimängu suurkujud, kui nad sellisel sümboolsel väljakul võistlesid.
Meil oli seal võistlus, milles osalesin. Mängijaid oli neli. Jäin rahule, kuid esimesel korral on väljak raske.
Märkimisväärne on üheksas rada. Links-tüüpi väljaku uus suund pakub mängijale võimaluse panna proovile kogu oma löögioskus. 9. rada on pariga 3, 137-meetrine, händikäpiga 9. Selle peamine raskus seisneb tii ja griini kõrguste erinevuses. Golfikepi valik sõltub otsustavast tegurist: tuulest. Esimene löök kepiga, mis on mõeldud kogemustega mängijatele, kes soovivad vastu võtta vastutuule väljakutset. Griin on lai ja veidi paremale kaldu. Kui teil õnnestub ületada punkrid, mis lippu kaitsevad, siis võite puttida birdie’ga. Sellised nõuanded andis mulle kohalik proff. Need võivad vajalikuks osutuda, kui satute Golf del Suri mängima.
Mul ei õnnestunud mängida Abama golfiväljakul, kuid Abama võttis vastu kõik gaalaeine külalised ning piirkond ja hotell ise on luksuslikud. Kui kellelgi avaneb võimalus, siis soovitan puhkuse veeta Abama hotellis. Abamas on vulkaanilised maastikud, lopsakas taimestik üle 300 taime-, puu- ja palmiliigiga, hingematvad panoraamvaated üle Atlandi ookeani ja La Gomera saare. Meie Tenerife hotell koos märkimisväärse asukohaga Tenerife läänerannikul, Teide sujuvatel nõlvadel, kõrgeimas Hispaania punktis, paikneb hingematvalt kaunil maastikul, mis ulatub ookeanini ning omab ainulaadset kuldse liivaga randa. Mul pole olnud võimalust Abamas mängida, kuid kohalik proff andis mulle järgmised soovitused, mida võite järgida, kui teil veab ja sinna mängima satute. Viimasel päeval mängisime Buenavista golfiväljakul. Mängisime 18 rada neljastes võistkondades kolme härraga. Mäng läks hõlpsasti ja pakkus palju naudingut. Igalt rajalt avaneb suurepärane vaade ookeanile. Neil on kaasaegne klubihoone, mille vaade avaneb ookeanile ja mägedele. Seal on ka baar ja restoran. Pärast mängu saate seal süüa ja juua.
Märkimisväärne rada on üheksas rada. Mäletan järgmisi soovitusi, mida sain kohalikult profilt. Kogu väljakut läbivad Severiano Ballesterosi standardid, kus ei saa eksida. Üheksas rada on pariga 5, händikäpiga 11. See on 468-meetrine ala, kerge kallakuga vasakule, looduslike takistustega, mis paiknevad siin-seal. Oma esimese löögiga püüame leida edenemisala parempoolse osa, püüdes palli võimalikult punkri lähedale saada. Tiilöök draiveriga peaks tagama üle 250-meetrise löögi. Strateegilise veetakistusega hästi kaitstud griin on meie teise löögi eesmärk. Hübriidi kasutamine peaks tagama löögi two-iron-kepiga, mis viib palli lipust paremale. Griini tagasihoidlik paremalekalle kohustab meid oma esimest putti kaaluma. Vaid mõni sentimeeter lipust eemal paneme palli maha birdie saavutamiseks meie viimasel löögil.

In November 2005 and 2007 Baltic-Breaks exhibited at World Travel Market in London. In 2005 Baltic-Breaks were offering incoming tours to Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. In 2007 we already started offering golf in the three countries.
In 2007 a photo of us appeared in Baltic Stand by, the travel and tourism magazine distributed by subscription in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and the partners of Baltic tourism around the world, including travel agents, tour operators, airline offices, tourist bus companies and foreign tourist representatives.

In September I had a chance to go to Tenerife and take part in the 10th International Golf Challenge as a golf tour operator. I would like to share my impressions about the golf courses and about the hotels.
As it was my first trip to the island part of Spain, I worried a lot about which my first impressions would be. The flight from Tallinn can be done by charter holders in October but, as my trip was in September, I flew for a long time. If you are planning your holiday, it is better to choose a charter flight to Tenerife which will be from 16.10. on Friday and from then it will be every Thursday until April. It is going to take only 6 hours. If you fly by a regular flight, it took me around 12 hours. I had to fly via Helsinki and Madrid and then I landed in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Southern airport. The Southern airport is only 20 minutes drive from the hotel I was staying at - Jardin Tropical. As I landed at night it took me only about half an hour to get to the hotel by taxi and it cost me 35 Euros. I was staying in Jardin Tropical hotel. It had a stunning architecture and 400 rooms. However, the hotel has been designed in such a way that I didn’t feel a lot of people were staying there. Arabian motifs were felt everywhere in the hotel. It is located in Costa Adeje, the most exclusive and the most expensive place in Tenerife.
Tenerife is an ideal spot for spending your vacation as the average annual temperature there is 23 degrees centigrade. The island is only 300 kms from Africa and there are both golden sand beaches in the South and those with the volcanic sand in the North. It is also very green.
The most important thing is that they have two modern airports – Tenerife North and Tenerife South. Our planes arrive in Tenerife South which is situated close to all the golf courses. At one small island there is a very big number of different landscapes. You can find there mountains of volcanic origin (the highest being Teide volcano at 3,718 metres – the highest peak not only in Tenerife, but in the whole Spain). There are also different gorges, rocks and beautiful laurisilva forests. All these features make the island unique and you feel this atmosphere when you are there a lot. Sea, an important thing for us, is also there.
From my hotel room (Jardin Tropical) I could enjoy wonderful views on the Ocean and on the neighbouring La Gomera island. We had a splendid breakfast in the hotel that I could enjoy. They even gave champagne for breakfast. There are also two swimming pools in the hotel, one with fresh water and the other one with salty water that was around 18-20 degrees in temperature. The pool was near Las Rocas restaurant.
What I liked is that the hotel’s location gave me a possibility to visit all the golf courses. There are 6 altogether on the South, the furthest being at the distance of 17 kms. A stunning golf club from the Northern part of the island, Buenavista golf, is around 60 kms from the hotel. However, you spend around 2.5 hours travelling there as you have to drive via all the island. And you can to return by a mountain serpentine which takes 1.5 hours. Unfortunately, you cannot use the serpentine in the morning because the traffic is too heavy and it would take more than 2.5 hours, you will be wasting your time in numerous traffic jams.
If you want to stay in the North a good choice would be Vincci Seleccion Buenavista Golf & Spa hotel which is located on the premises of Buenavista golf club and then Buenavista golf club will be your domestic golf course.
Traditional Canarian cuisine offers lots of seafood the peak of it being the famous parrotfish which I would recommend to try in Las Rocas restaurant, it would cost you around 19 euros only. It’s better to walk along the promenade with its number of restaurants. It is more available and cheaper if you dine outside your hotel where there is the promenade, lots of shopping centres and restaurants.
Other gastronomic specialities include goat cheese, local wine, but the most famous thing about Tenerife cuisine is it seafood and meat. Seafood include the mentioned parrotfish, seabass, sole, and tuna. Popular meat dishes are rabbit, goat and veal.
You can go there with the whole family, there will be something to do for everyone. There are activities for the whole family.
As for eating and drinking in Adeje there is everything starting from Spanish restaurants and finishing with English pubs. There are first-class shopping centres and Siam Park, the largest water theme park in Europe and the only heated open-air water fun park. When I was there surfers were performing there on the artificial wave machine capable of generating waves of up to 3 meters and there was a wonderful dinner.
I was lucky, I spent the whole week in Tenerife and I had the first day free so I could use it for playing golf at La Gomera island, Tecina golf course.
In Tenerife, everything is prepared for you to enjoy this sport. It is the island of golf. The climate, mild throughout the year, allows you to have a pleasant game both in winter and summer, as on Tenerife it is always spring. There are eight golf courses to choose from located in both the north and the south. I managed to play on four of them. I went to Tecina from the hotel Jardin Tropical, I ordered the taxi, it took around 15 minutes early in the morning. The first ferry to La Gomera was early in the morning. The ferry costs 30 EUR return and takes around 30 minutes.
Vacation on Tenerife can be combined with La Gomera. You may play golf and stay in Hotel Jardin Tecina, a beautiful hotel built in the form of bungalows in Canarian style. There are also tennis courts where you can play tennis. In the evening there is a show of live music and the theatre. If you still want to stay a couple of days at La Gomera island if your second person doesn’t play golf, there are trekking routes and deep water fishing and diving. Hotel Jardin Tecina offers all this, you can find everything there. Those who don’t want to swim in the pool can swim in the Atlantic Ocean.
When I arrived, the taxi costs 35 EUR one way. It will take you from the place where ferry by Fred Olsen company arrives to the golf course. The taxi driver was a Spanish guy who didn’t speak English and spoke only Spanish trying to tell about everything, about the island, about how long he worked as a taxi driver. My modest knowledge of Spanish and gestures helped me to understand him. The road was a serpentine. When I arrived at the hotel I took the free shuttle bus to get to the clubhouse, and from the clubhouse to the first tee. It is impossible to get there on foot. There is a small restaurant in the clubhouse, the dressing room with a shower and a pro-shop. In the restaurant I liked a huge bunch of bananas which you can take with you to the golf course to eat. You may pick as many bananas as you like and take them to the golf course.
The landscape is very mountainous and gives views to the sea and to the mountains. The most spectacular hole is the 4th which requires a high degree of accuracy as there are a lot of obstacles on the way. The fairway is rather irregular with two platforms of different heights bordered on the left by a striking ravine. The choice of club is fundamental if you want to play the hole in just 2 strokes. A fiver might be a good option provided the wind isn’t too strong. The green, although it is pretty accessible, is well-protected by a bunker on the apron and the path on the right hand side of the fairway with the result that the playing area is considerably reduced. Once you have reached the green and depending on the location of your ball, it is possible to putt taking into account the unevenness of the ground. Getting down in three is almost obligatory for any player with a handicap under 10.
I would recommend using the buggy there as the landscape is very mountainous and walking may be rather difficult.
I didn’t manage to play the 4th hole in three strokes but the local pro gave me the aforesaid advise. You can use it if you happen to play there. If you don’t want to spend a couple of nights on La Gomera island you may leave Tenerife early in the morning and come back by the ferry at 17.00. If you start playing at 10.00 you will make it to the ferry easily. The taxi driver on the way back spoke English a bit and showed me a beautiful rock in the shape of a lion.
We had the pro-am tournament next day, it took part on the Golf Costa Adeje golf course where Tenerife Ladies Open tournament also took part. All the cream of golfing society took part there including Laura Davies, Becky Brewerton, Diana Luna and Tania Elosegui. I didn’t play in the tournament, but I played the scramble with a young Italian pro Matia Maffiuletti. I was very impressed playing with her. Not only did I have a good game of golf, but I also learned a lot of new things. Playing with Matia was very useful and informative.
Golf Club Costa Adeje has two golf courses, the 18 hole Championship course and the 9 hole Los Lagos course which I played. The course respects the old farming terraces of the area. Tenerife Ladies’ Open itself took place on the Championship course and we played on Los Lagos course.
Los Lagos course is marked by mountainous landscape.
Next day I managed to play at Golf del Sur golf course – 27 holes. I played 18 holes. It is situated only 5 minutes away from Reina Sofia airport (Southern Tenerife) and built in an area that has been declared to be of national importance to tourism. Golf del Sur is definitely one of the most important golf complexes on the island. It opened its doors in 1987 with the aim of becoming one of the great courses in European golf. The original 27-hole project is a work of a famous designer Pepe Gancedo, but it was Manuel Pinero who was responsible for making Golf del Sur the only course on the Canary Islands with three competition routes. The complex has 27 holes on 3 rounds that are perfectly differentiated. The Northern Course of 2,949 meters has 9 holes, including 2 par 3s, 5 par 4s and 2 par 5s. On the Southern course there are 2 par 3s, 5 par 4s and 2 par 5s at a length of 2,957 m. The 36 shots of a newly opened links course include 2 par 3s, 5 par 4s, and 2 par 5s at a length of 2,853 m. The geography of the terrain has a notable influence on the characteristics of each round. The presence of the sea and the striking ravines, which give shape to the course, provide the player with the option of getting maximum enjoyment from every visit that he makes to Golf del Sur. We had a tournament there where I took part and there were four of us playing. I was satisfied, but for the first time the course is difficult.
A remarkable hole is the 9th one. The new route of the links course offers the player the option of putting his entire range of strokes to the test. The 9th is a par 3, 137-meter, 9 handicap hole. Its main difficulty lies in the difference in height between the tee and the green. The selection of the club will depend on a decisive factor: the wind. A first shot with a pitching witch is reserved to experienced players who wish to lay down a challenge to the headwind. The green is broad and presents a slight fall from left to right. If you have managed to get over the bunkers, which protect the flag, you will be putting for a birdie. These are the recommendations given to me by the local pro – they might be helpful if you happen to play Golf del Sur.
I didn’t manage to play on Abama golf course but Abama received all the guests at the gala dinner and the territory and the hotel itself are of luxury class. If someone has a possibility then I recommend it to spend your holiday staying in Abama hotel. Abama features volcanic landscapes, exuberant vegetation with over 300 varieties of plants, trees and palm trees, with breathtaking panoramic views over the Atlantic Ocean and the Island of La Gomera. I haven’t had the chance to play at Abama but the local pro has given me the following recommendations which you may follow if you are lucky enough to play there. One of most spectacular holes is the 6th one known as La Gomera. It is a good opportunity to try to improve on your par. This par 5, 442-meter, 15 handicap hole has a fairway that folds away which on sunny days offers a striking view of the island of La Gomera. With your first stroke you could choose one of the two possible points of access to the green. You could use a number one wood attempting to overcome the bunker that is located in the centre of the fairway. The flag, which is well-protected by bunkers, is the objective for your second shot. A five-iron or a wood for the fairway are the best option to reach the green in two. The putting surface is broad and uneven so you have to examine the ground carefully before fitting your ball. You put for a birdie fulfilling your aim of improving on a par.
My friends who played at Abama golf say that it is advisable to take a buggy as distances are too long and walking may be tiring.
On the last day we played in Buenavista golf course. We played 18 holes in the teams of four again with three gentlemen. The game went easily and brought me a lot of pleasure. From every hole there is a wonderful view over the Ocean. They have a modern clubhouse overlooking the Ocean and the mountains, there is a bar and a restaurant. You can eat and drink there after the game.
The remarkable hole is the 9th one. I remember the following recommendations given to me by the local pro. The unmistakable standards of Severiano Ballesteros is clear along much of the course. The 9th is a par 5 11 handicap. It’s 468 metres of a slight dogsleg to the left with a range of natural obstacles scattered here and there. With our first shot we will try to find the right-hand side of the fairway attempting to leave the ball as close as possible to the bunker. The tee shot with a driver ought to ensure shot over 250 metres. The green, well-protected by a strategic water trap, is the objective of our second shot. The use of a hybrid ought to allow a stroke with a two-iron taking the ball to the right of the flag. A moderate slope from left to right on the green obliges us to calculate our first putt methodically. Only a few centimetres from the flag we put the ball down for birdie on our last stroke.
To sum it up, some recommendations on my part. I recommend to rent a car if you want to travel around the island. This will save your time and you won’t be dependant on the transfers and Jardin Tropical hotel as well as all other hotels have parkings. When you travel to La Gomera, the ferry is also equipped so that you can take your car with you.
