The Kadriorg palace and park were founded by the Russian czar Peter I. According to the designs of the architect Niccolo Michetti, invited from Rome, the palace was built after the Italian villas, consisting of a main building and of two annexes.
The well-preserved great hall is one of the best examples of Baroque architecture not only in Estonia but also in the whole Northern Europe. Besides Russian and Italian artists, masters from Stockholm, Riga and Tallinn took part in its building work. The two-storied hall is decorated with rich stucco work and ceiling paintings.

  • Tallinn City and Rocca-al-Mare Tour 3 hours

The Estonian Open Air was founded in 1957 and opened to the visitors in 1964.
Old Estonian vernacular buildings together with exhibited commodities help to depict the daily life of peasants in the 18-20th centuries. The territory of the museum is divided into four parts of corresponding typical village types: Western Estonia, Northern Estonia, Southern Estonia and the islands. In each region farmyards of different wealth and age stand in the central position. There are twelve farmyards exhibited today. In order to create a true rural milieu, a church, an inn, a schoolhouse, several mills, a fire station and netsheds on the coast have also been transferred to the museum.
